The chef behind Lumpia World, Eleanor Yumul-Ellis.

 Another food truck is going brick and mortar, this time in Federal Way. Owners and husband-and-wife team, Eleanor Yumul-Ellis and Derrick Ellis have been slowly working up to a storefront for Lumpia World since 2006. They started with catering small events, graduated to farmers markets, and ended up on wheels. You can find their lumpia-dispensing truck on Harrison Street in Seattle on Tuesdays, for a full schedule of  locations check here.   

The cuisine is inspired by Eleanor’s cultural background: she was raised on the island of Saipan and her father is from the Philippines.  The storefront on 1610 South 341st Street opens Wednesday, April 10, and will start with lunch service Tuesday through Sunday from 11 to 3pm and the couple hopes to expand to brunch and dinner soon.  “We want to add a freshness to the Federal Way food scene,” says Ellis, “Our ultimate goal is to have an island feel to our space.” 

The menu is an expanded version of offerings from the truck.  It will of course include the flagship  lumpia (fried spring rolls) in many crispy and meaty iterations and accompanied by finadene, a salty, spicy dipping sauce traditional in Chamorro cuisine. But look out for new dishes like a Filipino-style breakfast consisting of a marinated protein of your choice with fried egg and garlic rice alongside a tomato medley. The menu will also cater to vegan, gluten free, and vegetarian diets.  Ellis and Yumul-Ellis will start small, with 20 seats inside, though they hope to have some outdoor seating in time for summer.
