Four, Score, and a Couple of Weeks from Now

Your Wear What When shop, share, and have-a-good-time list

September 25, 2009

This thing has been floating around the internet forever and no one knows who to credit anymore. Probably young Anna’s mum or dad.

Four fashion, style, and goodwill events to put on the calendar now, while you’re thinking about it.

++*Friday, Oct 2* One week from today, the Seattle debut of The September Issue, or, the scrapped title, The Devil Sure Does Wear a Lot of Abstracted Floral Print Sleeveless Sheath Dresses. You won’t read fashion mags, or any mags, the same way after spending a few hours with Ms. Wintour and that poor maligned yet oddly triumphant Grace Coddington. That’s our pal the Vogue chief-ed over there. It appears she’s always favored bangs.

++*Thursday, Oct 29* The second annual Get Hitched Give Hope auction. If you or someone you know is getting married any time soon, buy tickets now for this Making Memories Foundation fundraiser/great party. Last year I watched couples and friend-packs bid on goods and services from some of the best Seattle vendors while sipping great cocktails and enjoying delicious snacks and desserts inside that amazingly historic and beautiful dome at the Arctic Club Hotel. They were, simultaneously, having an entirely ridiculously great all-out super good time. I was sort of amazed by how much fun was had, but then again, if you’re not having an entirely ridiculously great all-out super good time preparing for your wedding, you’re not doing it right.

And here’s the thing: the team running this thing puts fun and fundraising on the same plane. The whole evening is strategically organized to move quickly and sweep you up in the madness of love and celebrations, and celebrations and love, while you create your own great wedding-day team and raise big piles of cash that will help fund meaningful, deep memories for women with metastatic breast cancer.

+*Saturday + Sunday Oct 24 and 25* 7th annual Closet Treasures Sale, a fundraiser for the much loved and respected Dress for Success program. The proceeds from the sales of donated vintage and designer fashion help promote economic independence for women in the midst of hard times.

+Saturday + Sunday Nov 14 and 15 The Seattle Goodwill Glitter Sale. People are nutty about this thing. All year long the organization stashes the best and brightest and glittery-est vintage and current fashions, and then brings them back out for the sale. From sequined gala gowns to rhinestone brooches, the stuff is priced to move — and to help fund Goodwill’s free job training and education centers. Pretty essential stuff in times such as these.
