The Bar Formerly Known as Viceroy
You know Viceroy. It’s a bar that should be awesome—given its styling bachelor-pad decor and roster of good DJs. But it’s saddled with a weekend crowd heavy on cologne and wince-inducing antics.
Well, if you’ve been there in the past few months, it turns out you weren’t at Viceroy at all, but at a place called The Rob Roy. The bar quietly changed its name some weeks back.
Why? Here’s what owner Linda Derschang emailed me: "We mainly changed the name to Rob Roy as we are focusing on our original intention of being a classic cocktail bar. The change happened after hiring Tara Mclaughlin [formerly of the Hideout]. The Rob Roy has become our signature drink and Tara makes a mean one!"
So what’s in a Rob Roy (besides noisy Belltowners in $200 jeans)? It’s three parts scotch, 1 part sweet Vermouth, stirred and strained and served over cracked ice.
