Licorous Announces Last Call

Elegant Licorous calls it quits.

Jamie Boudreau confirmed earlier this week that his new bar, Canon, would be taking over the Licorous space at 928 12th Avenue.
I called Licorous a few times to find out its plans—not to mention what would be the next step for Shophouse, the pop-up Thai restaurant that uses the space on Mondays. But before I had the chance to chat with them we got some answers via Twitter this morning. The bar says it will serve its last cocktails this Monday, June 27, then close for good.
How to feel about this? I’m really excited for Boudreau’s new project, but will miss Licorous. Despite some persistent issues with customer service, the bar had an elegant and effervescent vibe and a calm, near-feminine energy that’s far too scarce in the imbibing universe. And the place is gorgeously designed, if in need of a few updates. Boudreau and his business partner should have a lot of fun with it.
Licorous also employed, over the years, some truly lovely and talented people: Marley Tomic-Beard, John Atkins, other people. Finally, of course, there were those little pretzel dot sandwiches stuffed with coppa. How sad to think that we may never have the chance to snack on those again.
So, what of Shophouse? You may well ask. I’ll let you know when I do.
