The Maldives isn't exactly scrapping the unvarnished alt-country rock sound that's earned the band a beloved Seattle following over the past 13 years, but there are so many more vast expanses singer-songwriter Jason Dodson yearns to explore. "2 Know U Is 2 Love U," the first single from the Maldives upcoming fifth album Mad Lives (out March 31), makes it clear the new sonic journey will still be a heartily enjoyable one.

Tapping into entirely fresh soundscapes—a bright opening swell of strings, gorgeous cascading keys, plucked staccato accents—the band creates a soaring instrumental backdrop over which Dodson warmly delivers a lyrical mix of melancholy musings ("No, I'm not crazy / I've been drinking to erase me") and lovesick lines. Listen below.

Mad Lives will be available for preorder on iTunes starting March 1. Catch the Maldives play "2 Know U Is 2 Love U" and other tunes from the new record, when the band heads to the Triple Door on Saturday, April 1 for two album release shows with Naomi Wachira. Tickets for both the early and late show are on sale now for $20 at TheTripleDoor.net.
