The Sklar Brothers are way funnier than this photo would suggest.

COMEDY
Sept 3–5
The Sklar Brothers
When it comes to gut-busting rapid-fire patter, no one can touch the Sklar Brothers’ twin magic. Even when riffing, the duo’s wit is so synced that it’s hard to not think of them as one mythical two-headed standup comedy beast. Parlor Live Seattle, $12-$20
Fri, Sept 4
Doug Love Movies Podcast Taping
Standup comedy’s premiere whip-smart stoner Doug Benson returns to the Neptune for another taping of his podcast Doug Loves Movies. While the show features guests showing off their cinematic knowledge in a round of the Leonard Maltin Game (which involves guess movies based on Maltin’s description and the cast members), you needn’t be a baked film buff to enjoy the humor of Benson’s show (though it certainly wouldn’t hurt). Neptune Theatre, $19
Sept 4–6
Jimmy O. Yang
While hilarious, Jimmy O. Yang doesn’t get many (coherent) lines as Erlich’s hapless comedic foil tenant Jian Yang on HBO’s Silicon Valley. That changes when he hits the stage. The self-described “funny Asian dude” won’t shy away from his cultural heritage when he heads to Comedy Underground for a weekend of standup gigs. Comedy Underground, $15–$55
SPECIAL EVENTS
Sept 5–7
Bumbershoot
While this year’s Bumbershoot lineup skews younger than ever (It’s odd to think of Faith No More and Social Distortion as the elder statesmen), the family atmosphere of Bumbershoot has always been one of the festival’s charms. It’s a place where tweens, tots, and their parents can enjoy music together without an avalanche of awkwardness. Seattle Center, $85–$109; festival pass $190–$750
BOOKS & TALKS
Thur, Sept 3
Frida Clements: Have a Little Pun
Illustrator and designer Frida Clements has one of the most distinct aesthetics of any Seattle artist. Drawing from nature and a Scandinavian sensibility, she creates lush, childlike worlds of Northwest beauty, most notably in the form of exquisite silk-screened posters for local indie rock shows. In her new book Have a Little Pun, she marries her love of drawing critters with an affinity for simple, humorous wordplay from a bear that is “Maul About That” to an adorable rodent suggesting you “Gopher It” (we’re quite partial to “For Fox Sake”). It’s a delightfully silly work of art to leaf through. Third Place Books (Ravenna), Free
THEATER
Thru Sept 6
Matilda the Musical
Roald Dahl’s classic tale of a precocious 5-year-old bookworm who strives to overcome the oppressive nature of her parents and school comes to life on stage in Matlida the Musical. While the story may seem kid-focused, music and lyrics by brilliant comedian Tim Minchin make Matilda the Musical an exhilarating and hilarious show the whole family can appreciate. 5th Avenue Theatre, $29–$135
CONCERTS
Thur, Sept 3
Kithkin: Farewell Show
The end is nigh for Kithkin. After years as one of Seattle’s most exhilarating and energetic live bands, the Cascadian forest punks bid farewell with one last burst of rhythmic chaos and feral yelping. ’Tis better to burn out... Chop Suey, Sold Out
VISUAL ART
Sept 3–26
Lino Tagliapietra
Hailing from the glass-making paradise that is the Venetian isle of Murano, Lino Tagliapietra was a prodigy who began apprenticing at the age of 12. With a painter’s flair for loud colors and a masterful sense for creatively shaping blown glass, he quickly became a master in the field. Tagliapietra returns to the site of his first gallery show to display a collection of new works. Traver Gallery, Free
FOOD & DRINK
Mon, Sept 7
Li'l Woody's Free Burger Day
From 2-5pm on Labor Day, the Capitol Hill and Ballard burger spots are giving out free hamburgers to all customers. There is a one-burger-per-person limit and toppings and add-ons cost extra. Brace yourself for lines as these seasonal events always gather a crowd. Li'l Woody's, Free
OUT OF TOWN
Sept 4–7
Ellensburg Rodeo
Labor Day weekend means Ellensburg Rodeo, a longstanding tradition and current stop on a professional bull-riding tour. If all the bulls and blood and dust and mud are too much for you, head to the Shetland pony-racing novelty act known as Chariot Outlaws. Ellensburg Rodeo Arena, $16–$36
