Benjamin Verdoes

Benjamin Verdoes has only left Seattle in a mailing address sense of residency. The singer-songwriter that makes up 50 percent of indie rock group Iska Dhaaf (and fronted the great and defunct Mt. St. Helen's Vietnam Band) moved out to New York City last year to be with his fiancé while she attends law school (the details of said move, which included his Iska Dhaaf partner Nathan Quiroga and his girlfriend, were covered in a New York Times feature a few weeks ago), but it's clear a large part of his heart will never leave Seattle. Now he's ready to reveal the next chapter in his musical journey for his old hometown.

This Friday (September 18) Verdoes releases his second solo record The One and the Other on Brick Lane Records. His follow-up to his excellent debut album The Evil Eye, the six-song EP pushes finds Verdoes exploring new sonic territory with a lyrical narrative driven by hushed vocals and dark layered electronic sounds that evoke the simultaneous terror, wonder, love, and heartache of city nights. We're excited to premiere The One and the Other, which can be streamed in its entirety below.

On Saturday, September 26, Verdoes brings the new tunes home for The One and the Other's release show at Lo-Fi. The EP can be preordered now at (During this trip back West, Iska Dhaaf will also play a Seattle show at Barboza on September 30.)
