JON VOYAGE

After 16 years as America's foremost comedic newsman (not including ones that were characters), Jon Stewart said goodbye to The Daily Show last Thursday. The final episode featured a poetic rant on bullshit, a look at the people behind the scenes that made the show run, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. But the show's first segment was its best, as a cavalcade of The Daily Show correspondent and contributor alumni gathered to wish their old boss farewell. Considering Stewart's tenure launched cast members to stardom at a rate only bested by Saturday Night Live, it was quite the amusing (and touching) spectacle.

LISTEN

Advanced warning: Seattle singer-songwriter Briana Marela's new album is gorgeous. Recorded in Iceland with Sigur Rós's producer, All Around Us finds Marela's soft voice delicately floating above a sea of electronic beats lovely strings, as exhibited on the newly streamable track "Take Care of Me." All Around Us arrives on August 21 via Jagjaguwar, and Marela will play a free in-store at Sonic Boom Records on Sunday, August 23 to celebrate. Don't miss it.

HOOP DREAMS

After nearly a decade of dormancy, Gonzaga and UW are finally set to renew their hardwood rivalry. While the two schools agreed to renew their head-to-head series beginning in 2016, the schedule makers at the Thanksgiving weekend Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, which both clubs will participate in this year, did Washington state basketball fans a solid by making the Huskies and Bulldogs face off in the first round. It probably won't be much of a contest considering the Zags return the country's best frontcourt and UW's leading scorer last season—Nigel Williams-Goss—will be sitting on the Gonzaga bench after transferring. Then again, UW is used to losing to Gonzaga, having dropped eight of the previous nine matchups before chickening out of the rivalry after 2006. But hey, at least they're playing again!

I DON'T CARE IF MONDAY'S BLUE...

The art of making a mashup lies in the ability to make it sound like the songs sampled truly have belonged together all along. Daniel Barassi accomplished this feat when he paired the vocals of the Cure's "Just Like Heaven" with smooth instrumentals of the Comadores' "Easy" to create "Easy Heaven." Never has Robert Smith's angst seemed so breezy.

BLACK SHEEP NATION

Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation was the #1 movie in the country last weekend, but we can only imagine how much it would've brought in with a less traditional action star (sorry, Tom Cruise). In that vein, artist Todd Spence recut the film's trailer with Chris Farley taking over the role as Ethan Hunt. It's hums along as pretty good beat-for-beat recreation of the original trailer, but then—in the final moments—it becomes something simply glorious.
