Mamma Mia!
Deep down we all want to be the “Dancing Queen,” and Mamma Mia! allows us the chance to vicariously live out that fantasy. (Just us?) The Broadway smash that helped revitalize jukebox musicals brings the blissful pop of ABBA to the stage in service of telling the story of a young woman who seeks the identity of her biological father on the eve of her wedding by inviting—and getting to know—three of her mother’s former lovers. Paramount Theatre, $25–$100
Thru Apr 25
Best of Enemies
At first glance, the premise of Best of Enemies seems like cartoonish fiction intent on making a broad moral point: A Ku Klux Klan leader and a strong black woman becoming friends while on a community committee about desegregating schools in the 1970s? Please. But the story of C. P. Ellis and Ann Atwater’s bonding is true and speaks to the power of opening minds. Taproot Theatre, $20–$40
Sat & Sun, Mar 28 & 29
Nine
Any musical that can’t stand on its music alone is not worth seeing. Seattle’s Showtunes Theatre Company presents musicals as concerts (with singers stationed in front of stationary mics) rather than spectacles of dance and sets. This time Showtunes takes on Nine and its tale of an Italian film director who discovers the importance of the women in his life during a midlife crisis. Benaroya Hall, $21–$46
CLASSICAL & MORE

Seattle Men's Chorus: Legacy
The often fun-loving Seattle Men’s Chorus gets serious to honor the lives of two fallen figures in the gay community: San Francisco politician and activist Harvey Milk and Rutgers student Tyler Clementi. The program consists of two new original compositions, I Am Harvey Milk and Tyler’s Suite, which attempt to capture the spirit of these men who died too soon and leave listeners with an uplifting sense of pride. McCaw Hall, $28–$68
Sat, Mar 28
Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra: Tragic Heroes
The Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra brushes up on its Russian for a night of theater classics. Headlining the evening are Dmitri Shostakovich’s film score for the Russian version of Hamlet and Igor Stravinsky’s Petrouchka. Even without words, the music expresses the tragedy of each drama in moving fashion. Benaroya Hall, $30

Chastity Belt: Time to Go Home Release Show
Emotional detachment, thy name is Chastity Belt. The band of Capitol Hill troublemakers revels in nights gone wrong as Julia Shapiro wryly drones midtempo rock tales about embracing promiscuity and yearning to escape boring scenes. The band heads to the Highline to celebrate the release of its new album, Time to Go Home, with Dude York, Cool Ghouls, and DJ Sarah Moody. The Highline, $8
FOOD & DRINK

Taste Washington
Over the course of two days, Taste Washington plays host to 225 wineries and 70 restaurants from around the state. With single-day tickets running $90, that’s only 30 cents per exhibitor—and that does not factor in the 50 additional booths that sell food- and wine-related goods. Bonus: Running about frantically to check them all out will burn off those calories. CenturyLink Field Event Center, $90–$205
Sat, Mar 28
Washington Cask Beer Festival
Aging booze isn’t only for the wine and hard alcohol sets. The Washington Brewers Guild’s Cask Beer Festival showcases aged beer whose time spent in a cask helps mellow out the alcohol and lets the layers of flavor become even more pronounced. With over 40 Washington breweries on display, there will be an artisanal brew for any palate. Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, $40
BOOKS & TALKS
Thru Mar 29
APRIL Festival 2015
Now in its fourth year, the Authors, Publishers and Readers of Independent Literature Festival hasn’t let go of the scrappy outsider’s edge that’s a hallmark of the indie publishing scene. There are few other events that can bring together dozens of readers, competitive storytelling, and a Twin Peaks cover band while making it all seem natural and lively. Various Locations, Free–$10
