The Physics.

Looking to fill your December calendar with a few musical reprieves from the constant carolling? We suggest these three exciting shows that feature some of Seattle's top local talent:

The Physics: Digital Wildlife Release Show

As one of the acts shaping the new Seattle sound, we've been eagerly anticipating the Physics's next album, Digital Wildlife. The wait ends on when the album drops on December 13, but the real celebration takes place at the record's release show on December 21 at the Crocodile. Digital Wildlife garners its title from the way The Physics mixes analog recording elements and electronic sounds to form one cohesive and eclectic record. The group already released the album's first single, "Am I Crazy?," which can be heard below. The Physics has also announced the first support act for the release show – the sugary sweet young pop rock band Tangerine. If that's any indication, the lineup should be delightfully diverse. In the meantime, the Physics' DJ Justo keeps busy crafting (hilarious) promotional plans for the new record.

Dec 21 at 9, The Crocodile, $10–$15

Cathedrals 6: Sera Cahoone and Friends

Abbey Art's breathtaking Cathedrals concert series has brought some of Seattle's finest talent–Damien Jurado, the Moondoggies, Noah Gundersen, and more–into St. Mark's Catherdral for intimate concerts. The sixth installment in the Cathedrals series welcomes Sera Cahoone and her equally talented friends–Grant Olsen (Gold Leaves/Arthur and Yu), Tomo Nakayama (Grand Hallway), and S (aka Jenn Ghetto)–into the hallowed walls for a show that might just feel like a religious experience.

Dec 7 at 8, St Mark's Cathedral, $12

Smooch Benefit 2013

Seattle Musicians for Children's Hospital (SMooCH) hosts its second annual benefit concert at Showbox at the Market on December 14, and the lineup overflows with Northwest talent: Allen Stone, Sub Pop's the Helio Sequence, the Lonely Forest, and Shelby Earl (see her startling new video for "Swift Arrows" below). That's four acts worth seeing as headliners sharing the same bill. The night also features catering from Skillet and a silent auction that includes packages like sideline tickets for Seahawks training camp and insider access to New York Fashion Week.
