The Flaming Lips and their Space Bubble at Lollapalooza.

Summer is coming.

Capitol Hill Block Party just announced its initial music lineup for the July festival, and topping the list is psychedelic rock band the Flaming Lips. With elaborate stage shows, a hamster ball large enough for lead singer Wayne Coyne, and singalong tunes like “Do You Realize,” a Flaming Lips concert is something everyone should see once, regardless of musical tastes. And the Pike-Pine corridor is the perfect place to test out that hamster ball.

Gregg Gillis—aka Girl Talk, the king of frenetic mashups and borderline insane dance parties—takes the second headlining spot, and Seattle soul act Pickwick (our recent Album of the Month honoree) rounds out the top of the bill. As Allen Stone proved at last year’s CHBP, the crowd can really get behind its local soul stars; this has the makings of a dance-happy weekend.

Three-day festival passes are on sale now through Saturday for $75 (a $20 discount) before the price goes up to $95; those who buy early also receive admission to an exclusive Pickwick and Radiation City show at Neumos this Thursday, April 4. That’s twice the Pickwick bang for your buck. Not too shabby.
