Out [o] Fashion Photography: Embracing Beauty
A broad survey of photography examines historical perceptions of beauty through the eyes of the artist, featuring the work of Cecil Beaton, Edward Curtis, Lee Friedlander, Cindy Sherman, Andy Warhol, and more. We see a muscular mechanic, a bare back, a stoic Apache woman, while considering the notion of idealized beauty and “the gendered image." Henry Art Gallery, $6–$10.

Hugo Literary Series: You Are Here
The final event of Hugo House’s 2012­–13 Literary Series focuses on maps, but there’s not a cartographer to be found in the lineup. Best-selling author Cheryl Strayed (Wild), multiple PEN-winning poet Chris Abani, local favorite Jonathan Evison (West of Here), and singer-songwriter Joy Mills share new work addressing the question “Where am I?" Anne-Sophie Mutter
Superb German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter has earned a reputation as a world-class interpreter of Mozart’s solo violin compositions, getting her start at the tender age of 13. Her recital with pianist Lambert Orkis will feature Mozart’s Sonata no. 27 in G Major for Violin and Piano, plus
a series of lovely violin sonatas by Schubert, Lutoslawski, and Saint-Saëns. Benaroya Hall, $54–$144.

Marc Maron
The comedian’s stand-up tour “Out of the Garage” is, quite literally, a break from podcasting WTF with Marc Maron out of his garage in Los Angeles; it’s only a 10-date tour with nights in Vancouver, Portland, and Seattle. He seems to feel at home in our dark, neurotic corner of the world. Neptune Theatre, $26.

Wintergrass 2013
Break out the banjo: Nearly 30 bluegrass, gypsy jazz, and old-timey bands descend on Bellevue for the annual Wintergrass festival, turning the Hyatt Regency into a hotbed of pickin’ and strummin’. Bellevue Hyatt Regency, $25–$70; festival pass $135.

Hey Marseilles
Ever since the Seattle chamber pop band self-released its debut album, To Travels and Trunks, in 2008, fans have been calling for more. Wait no longer: Hey Marseilles celebrates the release of Lines We Trace at the Showbox before heading out on tour; the band has a date with SXSW later this month. Showbox at the Market, sold out.

Alabama Shakes
It takes a lot for a new blues-rock band to make waves these days (they can’t all be the Black Keys), but that’s just what Alabama Shakes did with its 2012 full-length debut, Boys and Girls. The group’s Southern rock avoids sounding like another exercise in the blues scale thanks to the raw power of front woman Brittany Howard. Paramount Theatre, sold out.

An Evening with Yes
English prog-rock pioneers Yes don’t do anything the quick way. Their experimental jams would hover around nine minutes each, and for this show, five members of the band’s rotating cast (Jon Davison, Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes) go big or go home. They’ll play not one, not two, but three of their classic albums in their entirety (Close to the Edge, Yes, Going for the One). Moore Theatre, $33–$43.

The Great Flood with Bill Frisell
Seattle jazz guitarist Bill Frisell writes and performs a jazz-and-blues score for The Great Flood, Bill Morrison’s film chronicling the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 through a stark newsreel of the displaced. Moore Theatre, $33.

Seattle Jewish Film Festival
The Day I Saw Your Heart, a lighthearted comedy starring Mélanie Laurent, kicks off this year’s festival, which pays tribute to Jewish people in the arts with documentaries on cartoonist Art Spiegelman and controversial film director Roman Polanski. Emerald City Comicon
Holy dynamic duo, Batman! TV’s original Caped Crusader (Adam West) and his Robin (Burt Ward) will both appear at this year’s Emerald City Comicon, as will Star Wars alum Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Sir Patrick Stewart, and Christopher Lloyd. That’s reason enough to go without even considering the comics, gaming options, and artists that ECCC always provides. Washington State Convention Center, $25–$35; three-day pass $65.
