Columbia City Cinema Is Back

The newly dubbed Ark Lodge Cinemas will open Saturday with a Lord of the Rings marathon.

Columbia City Cinema is reborn—let there be Hobbits.

“I don’t know how I can reciprocate the enthusiasm that people have for this theater coming back. I don’t want to disappoint them.”
That’s the money quote in a feel-good story about the comeback of the much-beloved Columbia City Cinema that’s running in the January issue of Seattle Met. January 1st was the tentatively scheduled grand opening, and we were pumped to prime you guys on how the once-shuttered cinema—renamed Ark Lodge Cinemas—was reborn under new owner David McRae. And then…news dropped today that McRae was raising the curtains earlier than expected (thanks to a little help from City Hall) for a Lord of the Rings marathon this weekend and the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14. Make sure to check out the new Seattle Met for the full story, but in the meantime, let’s pop some champagne—and some popcorn—for McRae and the Ark Lodge Cinemas. A neighborhood of hungry cinephiles couldn’t be happier to see the lights on again.
