Rodriguez was the '70s rock icon that wasn’t. The Detroit folk rocker never found traction in the states with his jangly guitar playing and working-man lyrics on his albums Cold Facts (1970) and Coming from Reality (1971). So he faded into obscurity. But around the globe, from South Africa to Australia (and unbeknownst to him), Rodriguez was becoming a cult music legend as his albums went platinum. Since he stayed out of the public eye, his persona was shrouded in mystery—many thought he was dead. But thanks to 2012's Searching for Sugar Man and reissues of his records on Seattle label Light in the Attic, he's finally getting his well-deserved time in the spotlight.

Rodriguez is set to play a sold-out gig at Showbox at the Market celebrating Light in the Attic Records' 10th anniversary. The night also features opening sets by Michael Chapman and another hidden gem in the Attic: Fruitland, Washington’s forgotten funk brothers Donnie and Joe Emerson.
