The makers of the Seattle rock doc TAD: Busted Circles and Ringing Ears turn their cameras on pioneering grunge band Mudhoney in this new party on film…er, documentary about the band’s career. The Daily Show’s resident ranter Lewis Black spent over 30 years honing this wedding farce, inspired by an ex-girlfriend who said she’d never get married—then broke up with Black and was engaged months later. Ouch. ACT Theatre, $38–$55.

American Idiot
Before Bono penned Broadway tunes about Spider-Man, Green Day held the market on rocksicals with its rock opera about the malaise of suburban twentysomethings. But honestly, the story doesn’t matter. It’s an adaptation of the band’s Grammy-winning album—we’re going for the faux Green Day concert. Paramount Theatre, $25–$85.

NW New Works Festival
The annual festival premieres 16 cutting-edge pieces, from experimental dance theater to puppetry, each in under 20 minutes. This year’s talent includes Seattle’s Catherine Cabeen and Company, the art-dance mashup of Zoe | Juniper, and boylesque star Waxie Moon. On the Boards, $14–$30.

PNB Season Encore Performance
PNB pays tribute to the Seattle careers of departing principal Lucien Postlewaite and corps dancer Abby Relic with selections from their pasts—of note, the Roméo et Juliette balcony pas de deux and the Swan Lake Black Swan duet. McCaw Hall, $28–$168.

After years of releasing albums with Barsuk Records, this Seattle singer-songwriter turned to crowd-funding site Kickstarter to finance his latest effort, Television Saints. While the business model may be new, his songs still have the same serenity he’s always employed. Neumos, $13.

It’s the last weekend to see the exhibit exploring homosexuality’s impact on the American art landscape, on display at TAM. While the controversy surrounding it set the art world abuzz, Hide/Seek plays on substance rather than shock value. Tacoma Art Museum, $10.
