This week’s giveaway is a bit nostalgia-driven. You could win a pair of tickets to see the Posies at the Neptune Theatre on Saturday, November 19, at 9pm.
Since their glory days in the early ‘90s, when Bellingham boys Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow started administering a cheery power pop antidote to all the grunge that was coming out of Seattle, the band has broken up (twice), recorded seven studio albums, and rediscovered the sound that made that famous. Their latest album, 2009’s Blood/Candy, goes “back to their roots,” they say; the memorable hooks and harmonies are still there, but the melodies have grown more mature: it’s sunny pop with a chance of showers.
The Posies (with drummer Darius Minwalla and bassist Matt Harris since 2001) set off on an exhaustive world tour this summer, covering all the usual spots: Birmingham, Alabama; Walla Walla; Finland; Serbia. But now the boys are back to headline an all-local showcase, with alt-country act Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs and Curtains for You joining.
To enter to win tickets, email [email protected] with “The Posies” as the subject, and a memory of listening to the Posies, by Monday, October 24, at 10am. The winner will be notified by email shortly after the deadline.
The Posies are at the Neptune on Nov 19 at 9.
