Indiana Jones double feature Raiders of the Lost Ark and a shot-for-shot remake by 12-year-olds (a cult hit) screen at SIFF.

FILM In 1981, Harrison Ford donned a fedora, grabbed a whip, and Indiana Jones was born. Raiders of the Lost Ark so thrilled a group of 12-year-old boys in Mississippi, they set about filming a shot-for-shot remake in 1982—shooting in back yards and basements during school vacations. It took six years to finish Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation, but the 100-minute feature is so faithful, it’s been called “one of the greatest fan films yet.” It screens at SIFF this weekend in a double feature with Spielberg’s original Raiders. Filmmakers Eric Zala and Chris Strompolos will be in attendance. Feb 18-20.

BOOKS & TALKS It’s Macklemore unplugged! Hugo House hosts a musical edition of its popular literary series, Brief Encounters, featuring all-new work by rising Seattle hip-hop star Macklemore, Maldives front man Jason Dodson, and folk/funk singer Laura Love, and writer Matthew Simmons. Feb 18.

In How the West Was Lost: Facing Up to America’s Economic Decline and the Threat of China and the Rising Rest, international economist Dambisa Moya describes how Western economies are on the downswing due to flawed financial, political, and military decisions. Topical, eh? She’s at Town Hall. Co-presented by Seattle Arts and Lectures. Feb 18.

COMEDY Cheer on local comedy acts (with great names like Fun Bucket) as they take on troupes from across North America in the weekend-long, bust-a-gut marathon Seattle Festival of Improv Theater. Thru Feb 20.

CONCERTS Shabazz Palaces and TheeSatisfaction team up at Neumos; Presidents of the United States of America have a three-night stand at Showbox; the Decemberists play the Paramount; and Seattle Rock Orchestra covers Radiohead. (Read more about our top weekend concert picks.)

DANCE Vancouver choreographer Crystal Pite, one of the “most adored art-dance makers” at On the Boards in recent years, returns with her troupe Kidd Pivot and one very angry puppet for Dark Matters. Feb 17-20.

EAT AND DRINK This sure ain’t kosher, but the Cochon 555: Culinary Competition and Tasting Event Celebrating Heritage Breed Pigs sounds delicious. Sample pork prepared by five local chefs and wine from the region at the Westin on Sunday; raffle proceeds benefit the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance. $125-$175. Feb 20.
