Local A Cappella Group Staying Alive on NBC’s The Sing-Off

Groove for Thought competes again tonight at 8.

By Laura Dannen December 13, 2010

I didn’t know what this show was until yesterday, when my friends were telling me about Ben Folds offering deep thoughts on primetime NBC. Better yet: The Sing-Off, an a cappella competition in its second season, boasts a Seattle jazz group made up of local music teachers (and a student); half are Central Washington alumni. The season’s already halfway over, and Groove for Thought has made it from the top 10 to the top six, with giddiness riding high. (Watch the clip.) I’m going to cheer them on from afar, because I can’t quite handle host Nick Lachey and his perma-grin, or the way judge Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men can’t decide whether to say "bra" or "bro," so it keeps coming out like "bruuh." Anyway: Tonight, 8pm, NBC. Go team.
