Win Tix to See Nora Ephron
We’re still reaping the tourism benefits of Sleepless in Seattle. “It’s Americana at this point,” says David Blandford, director of public relations for Seattle’s Convention and Visitors Bureau. People still want to know where Hanks and buddy Rob Reiner talk tiramisu. (It’s the Athenian Inn.) Argosy, Ride the Ducks, and Waterways Cruises all spotlight Hanks’s floating haven on Lake Union…. No surprise that the movie lures people here; it exudes the genuine fondness for the city felt by the visitors who made it. —Steve Wiecking, Home Movies
Or one visitor in particular: screenwriter/director Nora Ephron, whom we can also thank for When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, and Julie and Julia. She fell in love with our soggy city back in the early ‘90s, and returns next week to talk about her latest project: I Remember Nothing and Other Reflections, a book of personal essays out this month. With her characteristic wit and candor, Ephron—who’s rounding the corner on 70—relives her days as a New York Post reporter in “Journalism: A Love Story,” and wisecracks about her senior moments becoming Google moments. She’s a skilled storyteller, and if you have the chance to see her in person, you should take it.
Want that chance? We have two pairs of tickets to give away to her lecture at Town Hall on Thursday, Nov 18, at 7:30pm (cosponsored by Seattle Arts and Lectures and University Book Store).
There’s one rule to enter:
1. Email your name and the best line from the best Nora Ephron movie to [email protected] by Wednesday, Nov 17, at 5pm.
That’s it. The right answer will be determined scientifically—possibly with darts—and we’ll email the winners on Wednesday evening. Does anyone else think it’s a good omen that the Gmail address “Nora in Seattle” looks just like “No Rain Seattle”?
