Funny Ladies: Nora Ephron and Lauren Weedman
I was looking at the semifinal lineup for the Seattle International Comedy Competition, which is going on all month, and felt a pang when I counted 10 men and no women. What the… oh, wait, I’m an idiot. I forgot women aren’t funny.
Except for Nora Ephron and Lauren Weedman. (Oops, theory disproved.) And lucky us: Seattle gets two funny women in the same week! On Thursday night at 7:30, the acclaimed screenwriter/director Ephron will talk about her new book of essays, I Remember Nothing and Other Reflections, at Town Hall (there’s a preview in the clip above). We have a contest going to give away two pairs of tickets to the event, but you have to enter by TODAY, Nov 17, at 5pm. Find out more here.
And on Friday night at 7:30, comedian Weedman—known for her stint in Seattle as a member of sketch comedy troupe Almost Live! and her time as a Daily Show correspondent—joins a local lineup at the Hugo House for its latest Literary Series. Weedman, author/Stranger genius Stacey Levine, cartoonist David Lasky, and country singer Zoe Muth show off new work on the evening’s topic, Mother Knows Best: everything from a mother’s love to a mother’s neuroses.
If you haven’t seen Weedman live before, it goes a little something like this…
