Billy Corgan brings his newly assembled Smashing Pumpkins to Showbox SoDo September 10.

“Reunion” might not be the right word for Friday night’s Smashing Pumpkins gig at Showbox SoDo, since irascible front man Billy Corgan is the only original band member left. For the tour, he’s joined by former Veruca Salt bassist Nicole Fiorentino, guitarist Jeff Schroeder, and drummer Mike Byrne. Tickets are long sold out, but you never know what you’ll find on StubHub.

DANCE Let the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra play a soundtrack to the sinking sun as you learn to swing dance at Olympic Sculpture Park tonight; lessons are 6-7, open dancing is 7-9, and it’s all free. Call 206-264-5646 if it looks like rain to find out if the band plays on.

CLASSICAL & MORE Seattle Symphony warms up for its 26th and final season with conductor Gerard Schwarz at the Beethoven and Wine Festival. Schwarz conducts Beethoven’s grand Fifth tonight and his Piano Concerto no. 3 on Friday. Preconcert wine tasting starts at 6:30, with wine flights costing $5. Seattle Symphony’s official kickoff is the opening night concert and gala on Saturday; read more about it here.

CONCERT Only a few outdoor concerts left at Marymoor Park this season, including Saturday’s indie-rockathon with the National and opening band Okkervil River. Tickets are still available.

THEATER Local celeb Julie Briskman plays Eppie Lederer (aka Ann Landers) who puts off writing a difficult column by sharing her favorite letters and stories with the audience in The Lady With All the Answers. It’s in previews at ACT Theatre starting Friday.

FILM Is Joaquin Phoenix an actor or a rapper? Is his new movie I’m Still Here a documentary or a mockumentary? Does any of it matter? It opens in theaters on September 10; read our review here.
