Storming the Streets

Tonight’s the night to party like it’s 1979—June 1, 1979, when the Seattle SuperSonics won their first and last NBA title and the town went wild. Or October 12, 2004, when the Seattle Storm won their first WNBA championship—but not their last. Last night the Storm did it again, sending the Atlanta Dream off to slumberland and clinching their second title. This time the Sonics are languishing in Oklahoma and the Storm are the only hoop game in town, so it’s an even bigger occasion to celebrate. The parade starts at 7 by the Space Needle and winds down Broad Street and First Avenue North to Key Arena, where the celebration starts at 7:30. We’re waiting to see Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson dance the Funky Chicken.
