TONIGHT ONLY
BOOKS & TALKS Newsweek senior editor Jonathan Alter had unprecedented access to President Obama during his first year in office. Find out what he learned at Seattle Public Library at 7. Free.

CLASSICAL MUSIC Ah, to be young and insanely talented. Cellist Joshua Roman joins pianist Helen Huang for a night of cello sonata classics and new works at Town Hall at 7:30. Read our profile of Roman here.

LAST CHANCE: THEATER
Only one more weekend to see Candide, the smart, salacious Leonard Bernstein operetta at 5th Avenue Theatre, and Intiman’s The Thin Place starring Gbenga Akinnagbe of The Wire. We recommend both—and here’s why (click here for reviews).

Comedian Matt Smith’s solo show at Richard Hugo House, All My Children, has been selling out strictly because of word of mouth. It’s that funny. Consider the message delivered. June 11 & 12. (Last we checked, tickets were still available for the Saturday show.)

ONGOING
MUSIC FESTIVAL Eighty bands. Seventeen venues. Help fight homelessness by rocking out for five days straight to the Maldives, Visqueen, and more at the city’s biggest philanthropic music festival, Noise for the Needy. Through June 13.

FILM SIFF is wrapping up, so it’s time to plan one last-gasp film binge—which, if you ask us, should end with closing night dramedy Get Low starring Bill Murray and Robert Duvall. Through June 13.

And if you missed it during SIFF, local director Linas Phillips’s Bass Ackwards (his latest since Walking to Werner) screens for five whole days at Northwest Film Forum. June 12-17.

TELEVISION
WORLD CUP The U.S. plays its opening match against England on Saturday at 10am. You can watch it at Neumos while gorging on poutine from Skillet, or catch other games at bars around town. Check out Jess Voelker’s top picks for where to watch.

The Tony Awards air Sunday at 5pmPT, and a few talented locals could come home with theater’s top honor. Cue jazz hands.
