Slideshow of SIFF Opening Night Gala

From the red carpet to the really long drink lines, we were there.

The party technically kicked off at 5 last night, when guests started arriving at Benaroya Hall decked out in sparkling floor-length gowns…and jeans and Converse. T’is a Seattle gala, after all. We snagged a few shots of Mayor McGinn and "the talent" from opening night film The Extra Man: Robert Pulcini, sans his wife/co-director Shari Springer Berman; star Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood); and Alicia Goranson, aka Becky from Rosanne. Heard a rumor that Grey’s Anatomy’s Sandra Oh was in attendance, but the place was packed—and she’s kind of short—so I couldn’t confirm that. What I can confirm was that the movie was great—driven by the charm of Kevin Kline and Dano’s endearing awkwardness (he can practically trademark that now). It was quirky, but not for the sake of being so. It was, in essence, an ode to Manhattan, where quirky is a religion.

Missed the whole night? Don’t worry: I had my camera. Just click on the slideshow.
