Torched Taproot Theatre restored, set to open 2010 season in Greenwood home

By Laura Dannen January 6, 2010

NEWS. Tickets went on sale yesterday for Taproot Theatre’s 2010 season—one threatened by an arsonist who set fire to Taproot’s Greenwood home in late October.

The fire torched four surrounding businesses on October 23—all in a building complex owned by Taproot—and caused debilitating damage to the theater’s box office, production office, and costume shop. The fire was one of 10 set across Greenwood in a span of weeks.

But in true “the show must go on” fashion, Taproot scrambled to restore its facility in time to launch its new season with C.S. Lewis fable The Great Divorce , running January 27-February 27. The show, in its regional premiere, explores the afterlife as a narrator stuck in “grey land” (purgatory) encounters a bus full of “riff raff” shuttling between heaven and hell.

The season continues with Brooklyn Boy (regional premiere, March 17-April 17), Charley’s Aunt (May 12-June 12), Man of La Mancha (July 7-August 7), and Wedding Belles (regional premiere, September 22-October 23).
