Last-minute shopper, eh? Just keep telling yourself that high-pressure situations lead to inspired work.

But if you’re stuck, consider these gifts for a select few in your inner circle:

What to get…

Your class-clown son: If he’s going to act up at school, he should at least do it with style. Enroll him in the Shakespeare’s Fools camp (February 15-19), where he can learn the basics of comedic timing, slapstick, acrobatics, and circus clowning from a crew of Teatro ZinZanni and Seattle Shakespeare Company instructors. Children ages 8-16 will study scenes from Shakespeare and apply the skills they learn to the text, so by the end of the five-day camp, they can tumble like Bottom, flail like Falstaff, and mock a bully like Lear’s Fool. Great for a budding actor. Register by December 31 and get $50 off tuition. $350, Feb 15-19 (during winter break), 9am-3pm, Teatro ZinZanni Spiegeltent, 222 Mercer St, 206-816-6491; zica.zinzanni.org

Village Theatre in Issaquah also offers acting classes at a slightly more reasonable price ($150-$275 over several weeks). Highlights include Broadway Boot Camp for high schoolers and The Art of Auditioning for grades 4-12. Find out more here.
Francis J Gaudette Theatre, 303 Front St N, Issaquah, 425-392-1942 x148; villagetheatre.org

The members of your book club: Get 110/110, a collection of original work from 110 local authors, each piece 110 words. The book celebrates University Book Store’s 110th birthday on January 10, 2010 (ahh, it all makes sense now). At a time when local bookstores face high rent, low sales, and that charming little Kindle, it’s a great way to support an independent seller. Writing samples range from fiction to non-fiction, poem to memoir, by Garth Stein, Ivan Doig, Stephanie Kallos, Dave Guterson, Stacey Levine, Tom Robbins and…well, 103 more. If you buy a book by one of the contributing authors, 110/110 is FREE (while supplies last). Plus, there are 110 topics for your book club to discuss; that should keep you going for at least an hour, or until the wine runs out. University Book Store, 4326 University Way NE, 206-634-3400; bookstore.washington.edu

Your favorite local arts and entertainment editor: Can’t go wrong with a package from Big Picture. The movie theater allows—nay, encourages!—drinking while you watch a movie. A waitress will even bring you a cocktail during the flick. We wouldn’t be upset if you got us the “champagne screening for two” (includes a bottle of bubbly, BP’s white cheddar popcorn, and two movie passes for $50) or the “movies and martinis” package (two cocktails, popcorn, and two movie passes for $40). We think it’ll take at least one drink to watch Daniel Day-Lewis try to sing in Nine anyway. Big Picture, Seattle and Redmond, 425-556-0566; thebigpicture.net
