Where will we be this First Thursday?
At Frye Art Museum for The Old, Weird America: Folk Themes in Contemporary Art
There’s only a month left to enjoy this twisted take on our nation’s history. Eighteen artists create images blending fact and fiction; we’re going solely to see Sam Durant’s life-size diorama of Pilgrims and Indians, Planting and Reaping, Learning and Teaching. Through January 3, 2010.
We’ll also stop by G. Gibson Gallery to see new work by Julie Blackmon, Faryn Davis, and Eva Skold Westerlind (and for the reception from 6-8pm). Each photographer zooms in on a different subject, be it precocious children, stark nature scenes, or melting snow (seriously). Blackmon’s images in particular—with a cheeky nod to domesticity—are worth the visit. Through January 2, 2010.
What is First Thursday? Dozens of downtown galleries and museums have free admission on the first Thursday of every month. Even Seattle Art Museum. Michelangelo would have appreciated the frugality of this day.
