Let the Special Olympic Games Begin!

The 50th annual Special Olympics descend upon us this summer. It’ll be the largest citywide sporting event in Seattle history.

When Eunice Kennedy Shriver launched a summer camp at her Maryland farm, Timberlawn, for those with intellectual disabilities, it was revolutionary. At the time, the 1960s, differently abled folks didn’t have camps let alone public places to simply be. In 1968, Shriver founded and debuted the inaugural Special Olympic Games in Chicago. The organization never looked back.
