Saint Helens patio in all its glory.

A week or so ago I compiled a list of great outdoor dining rooms that have a special characteristic: The ability to accommodate Seattle’s fickle weather.

Here is that list of indoorish-outdoorish spaces, some notable for heat sources, others for doors or windows that unite indoors with outdoors, others for partial covering.

In that spirit, one has to include Saint Helens Café, the new Bryant/Laurelhurst project of serial restaurateur Josh Henderson. Out a door at the far end of the bar one finds a sprawling deck, handily situated just off the teeming Burke-Gilman Trail, and partially covered. Heat lamps and a fire pit make it bearable on those many Seattle days when the temperature’s not quite as high as the hopes.
