PubliCalendar: Thanking Richard Conlin, Garden Restoration, and Greenwood Housing

Thank You Council Member Richard Conlin
Following 15 years of service on Seattle City Council, Richard Conlin will say farewell after being ousted by socialist Kshama Sawant. Sawant certainly succeeded at convincing voters she was more righteously lefty, but let's not forget that Conlin, who went out introducing emergency legislation to require minimum density at new developments in urban centers, urban villages, and station areas, in response to an auto-oriented Walgreen's proposal in Wallingford—was a bit of sustainability guru and thought along the lines of Mayor Mike McGinn's urbanist agenda.
(It will be interesting to see how anti-corporatist Sawant comes down on development and density issues—not to mention McGinn's unfinished push to bring the NBA back to town.)
Conlin's sendoff will feature introductions by Council Member Sally Clark; speeches from several Seattle leaders, such as Karma Ruder of the Center for Ethical Leadership and Sound Transit CEO Joni Earl; and music from the Garfield High School Jazz Combo.

Garden Restoration
Help keep the zen and natural beauty of South Seattle's Kubota Garden alive with some garden maintenance this Tuesday.
Some tools will be provided, but bring your own gloves and something to kneel on in case Seattle rain clouds are part of the zen cosmos that day.

Greenwood Housing ReviewVoice your views about a proposed four-story mixed-use building on Greenwood Ave N at its first public design review meeting tonight.
The meeting will delve into the design for the development, which includes ground-level retail space, 46 residential units, and 15 parking spaces.
