For Sunday
Garden Pests
Are pests infesting your vegetable garden? How harmful are those beetles, anyway? Sharon J. Collman, garden pest management guru and horticulture educator at the Washington State University Extension program, will calm (or confirm) your fears at her lecture about distinguishing the friendly insects from the troublemakers.
Sharon J. Collman: Garden Insect Pests, Sun, November 17, 1pm, Center for Urban Horticulture, 3501 NE 41st St, Seattle, $10 (but free for NW Perrennial Alliance members).
Green Building Slam
Support Seattle's sustainable buildings at the annual Green Building Slam this Saturday, where local architects will present 10-minute, 10-slide presentations about 10 different "green" building projects in the Greater Seattle area.
Roger Faris of KUOW (94.9), best known for his home repair advice, will MC the event, organized by ecosustainability building group NW EcoBuilding Guild.
10x10x10 Green Building Slam, Sat, November 16, 5–9pm, University of Washington (Kane Hall 2nd Fl), $10–$25.
For Friday
Family Puppet Show
It's the best of both worlds for parents and their children at PlayDate SEA, a large indoor play area that includes a play structure for kids, a cafe for parents, and healthy food options.
Bring the kids to PlayDate this Friday night for puppet show "The Pirate and His Pet," performed by Portland, Oregon's award-winning puppet performers Dragon Theater Puppets & Princesses.
PlayDate SEA Family Fun Night, Fri, November 15, 6:30pm, PlayDate SEA, 1245 Mercer St, $7–$12.
Remembering JFK
To remember the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination, coming up on November 22nd, the Meaningful Movies Project—a nonprofit organization that screens social justice-related films each Friday—will dedicate the next two Fridays to the national tragedy.
This Friday's film is "Rush to Judgment: The Plot to Kill JFK," a documentary released in 1967 that investigates JFK's assassination and questions the Warren Commission's official determination that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.
Friday Night at Meaningful Movies, Fri, November 15, 7–9:30pm, Keystone Congregational United Church of Christ, 5019 Keystone Place N, Seattle, free.
