Etta James Tribute

Take a trip down musical memory lane during this tribute concert for the late Etta James, the multi-Grammy winner who passed away last year.

Local jazz vocalist Mercedes Nicole will sing from James' venerable playlist, including knock outs like "At Last," "I Just Want To Make Love To You," and "Tell Mama."

Unveiling U-District's New Mural

Join Mayor McGinn and Councilwoman Sally Bagshaw as they help unveil The North Ave Mural in the University District, painted by members of the community at a series of community paint days last month.

The mural project is a response to recommendations by the Seattle Police Department to reduce crime via environmental design (called Crime Prevention through Environmental Design).

Seattle's Small and Simple Projects Fund for community development contributed $13,360 to fund the project.

A Depressed Cake Shop in Seattle

The Depressed Cake Shop, a fundraising idea conceived in the UK that now pops up in over 30 cities around the world, will visit Seattle with their literally sullen baked goods (all the cakes and baked goods are gray) to combat mental illness.

Entry is free, and proceeds from the goodies will go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Greater Seattle.

Pawsitive Open Houses

Pet adoption organization Pawsitive Alliance has arranged its second annual Statewide Shelter open house, a day when animal shelters across Washington state will open up to showcase their work for animals in need and recruit volunteers.

She opens for Dayna Stephens' acclaimed saxophone trio.
