A Depressed Cake Shop in Seattle

The Depressed Cake Shop, a fundraising idea conceived in the UK that now pops up in over 30 cities around the world, will visit Seattle with their literally sullen baked good (all the cakes and baked goods are gray) to combat mental illness.

Entry is free, and proceeds from the goodies will go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Greater Seattle.

Pawsitive Open Houses

Pet adoption organization Pawsitive Alliance has arranged its second annual Statewide Shelter open house, a day when animal shelters across Washington state will open up to showcase their work for animals in need and recruit volunteers.

She opens for Dayna Stephens' acclaimed saxophone trio.

Activate the Alleys

As part of a joint project between the City's Department of Neighborhoods and Pioneer Square businesses and residents, a crew of braniac urban designers from SvR Design and Olson Kundig Architects are working to help activate the historic neighborhood's alley ways.

Come give your feedback on the group's current ideas to both preserve and re-do the alleys. There'll be food and live music too.

Economic Opportunity Institute Fundraiser

They bill themselves as "Washington's only think tank for the middle class."

Come support the Economic Opportunity Isntitute's work (their brain power was key in passing Seattle's paid sick leave ordinance) at this social hour fundraiser with a keynote address by lefty "stand-up economist" Yoram Bauman.
