For Friday

GMO Documentary

The new documentary GMO OMG—directed, written, and edited by environmental activist Jeremy Seifert—tells the story of the GMO industry and its negative consequences. This film, particularly relevant for Washingtonians preparing on I-522 (which would require labeling of some genetically modified foods), opens on Friday with a special Q&A session with Pamm Larry, the creator of California's unsuccessful GMO labeling initiative Prop 37.

GMO OMG, Fri, September 27, 7:30pm, SIFF Uptown Center, 305 Harrison St., $11.

For Thursday

Social Justice Breakfast

Breakfast is served with a side of social justice at the Washington Community Action Network’s annual Social Justice Breakfast. This year’s theme, “Growing Grassroots, Building Power,” will feature keynote speaker Ai-jen Poo, the director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance.

Social Justice Breakfast, Thu, September 26, 7:30–9am, Seattle Machinists Hall, 9125 15th Pl. S, Seattle, $60.

For Wednesday

Sustainable Development

How do we balance innovation and growth with our climate goals?

Northeastern University Seattle is holding a panel discussion with Northeastern prof Joan Fitzgerald, the author of Emerald Cities: Urban Sustainability & Economic Development; Greg Johnson, president of local office building management group Wright Runstad; the director of sustaianability from Intel Europe; and, in case this all sounds a bit too corporate, Hillary Franz, director of the green super heroes at Futurwise, the local pro-transit, pro-sustainability, pro-density legal and legislative force.

RSVP here.

The New Tech Challenge: Matching Industry Growth with Sustainable Development, Wed, September 25, noon–1pm, 401 Terry Ave N, Suite 103, Seattle, free.

Happy Hour with the League of Women Voters

Have a drink or two with the League of Women Voters of Washington, a nonpartisan organization that encourages citizen engagement in government affairs. The happy hour will include opportunities to update voter registration information, win prizes, and learn more about the league.

League of Women Voters of Washington happy hour, Wed, September 25, 4–6pm, Vance Building, 1402 3rd Ave, Suite 430, Seattle, free.
