Looks like the tables of mayoral endorsements have turned since Friday, when we tagged McGinn as the labor candidate.

This morning, the popular Seattle Fire Fighters Union IAFF Local 27 announced they were endorsing state Sen. Ed Murray (D-43, Capitol Hill) for mayor.

The fire fighters are Murray's 12th union endorsement, and 10th sole union endorsement (he shares two—International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 46 and Teamsters Local 117—with McGinn, who has eight sole union endorsements, including the American Federation of Teachers Local 1789 Executive Board, Joint Council of Teamsters No. 28, and Machinists Union District Lodge 751). Some of Murray's other union endorsements are: the International Union of Operating Engineers (Locals 302 and 609), Laborers Local 242, and the Washington State Council of County and City Employees. 

The city's fire fighters union is a plum endorsement for Murray—they said Murray's "record in Olympia demonstrates that he understands the challenges and issues facing public safety and Seattle Fire Fighters"—but they were curiously mum about the incumbent McGinn, with whom they've worked for the past four years.

When we asked Seattle Fire Fighters Union President Kenny Stuart for a report card on McGinn's policies—was their something about his record that tipped the scales in Murray's favor?—Stuart avoided the question, saying simply that "Ed Murray's been a friend of labor and a friend of working families." When pressed about McGinn, he said the union is "focused on the next four years" and "not looking back," and continued to avoid saying anything too specific about McGinn.
