Slide Show: Seattle at the 2013 James Beard Awards
May 7, 2013

Blaine Wetzel of Willows Inn, Canlis chef Jason Franey, and Ethan Stowell, chef of many things but here nominated for Staple and Fancy, repped Seattle in the James Beard Awards this year.

The ceremony was hosted by Oliver Platt, who stepped in after Stanley Tucci bowed out. This year's awards had a food-in-movies theme. Though I think of Platt as the attorney from West Wing, he wasn't such a random choice—his brother is New York Magazine food critic Adam Platt.

Blaine Wetzel, you have a stunning lady friend. Also, this looks like you guys are headed to prom. And I mean that in the cutest possible way. Oh, and Andy Samberg needs to play you in a movie some day. That is all.

This is about as close to a tuxedo as Tom Douglas will ever get. Ladies, feast your eyes.

Chicago chef Grant Achatz (of Alinea, Next, and Aviary) said that he would want Ryan Gosling to play him in a movie. Which, based on how good Achatz's book was, isn't such a farfetched notion. The chef's choice of Gosling suggests that Achatz is packing more abdominal definition than one would have guessed.

Twitter comment of the night goes to Scott Heimendinger, aka Seattle Food Geek, who followed up Gabriel Rucker's Best Chef Northwest win with an assurance to Brian Canlis, "If I was there, I totally would have Kanye'd for you guys."

Remember when this show was in Seattle? Yeah, neither do I.

One more time. Just for fun. Team Canlis got stuck in traffic and were among the last to scuttle in to the awards, so Stowell and Wetzel hung around outside so we could get one photo of our three chefs together. Have a safe and fun prom night, guys.
