BCBGMaxAzria Fall Fashion 2012 at Chihuly Boathouse
August 7, 2012

I had the honor of introducing the show, which I did by sharing an anecdote from the night before. Seattle Met publisher Nicole Vogel and I took Azria and her marketing guru to dinner at Canlis. Among the many girl-talk topics that came up was travel. Under that heading, Azria stopped at one point and said, rather emphatically, "I like things that stay old." I thought it was an interesting statement for someone in fashion. Fashion likes things to change, right? But one thing BCBGMaxAzria is known for is consistency. They'll always do color—and often color blocking. They'll always do maxi dresses—and little minis too. And Azria told me that many of these dresses were "very Russian." As you watch the slide show, look for peasant dresses and easy, timeless shapes. Turns out, many things do stay the same. Image: La Vie Photography

My favorite thing about the fall dresses—and the Chihuly presentation featured only dresses—are the colors. Here, brilliant yellow and sandy beige. So modern. The new collection is in at the BCBGMaxAzria shop at Pacific Place. Image: La Vie Photography

I wasn't expecting to see such great accessories but this collection features harnesslike leather belts that counter the free-flowing boho vibe of the dresses. Image: La Vie Photography

Though the collection is dress heavy, there are separates—and some pretty fantastic ones. My favorite is this motorcycle-style leather jacket that combines embroidery and quiltlike details, as if the prettiest Russian peasant hopped on the back of Steve McQueen's Triumph. Image: La Vie Photography

As one member of the invite-only audience remarked, these are dresses to move in.

Azria shared her life story with us that night at Canlis. Born in the Ukraine and raised in Texas (Texas!), she really found herself in LA. The collection, and the brand itself, gathers that world of influences and a globe of color. Image: La Vie Photography

After their stop in Seattle, the team was off to the other Washington, where they'd be meeting with the social set. In DC, the gala and gown season is about to kick off, and these dresses will occupy some prime spots in the region's best parties. Image: La Vie Photography
