Tuesday Jolt: McKenna Leads Inslee by 9 Points in Latest Poll

The latest Elway Poll shows Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna leading US Rep. Jay Inslee in the governor's race 45-36.
And the details seem to make things even worse for Inslee.
Elway notes some "ominous" signs: "McKenna has made a more favorable impression on voters to date: 42% had a generally positive impression of McKenna, compared to only 28% with a positive impression of Inslee. More ominous for Inslee, the proportion of voters who had negative impression of him (22%) was nearly equal to the positive impressions (28%). In contrast, McKenna enjoyed a 3:1 positive to negative impression ratio among these voters."
Worse for Inslee, Jolt thinks, is McKenna's lead among independents (as well as the fact that more Democrats are crossing party lines to support McKenna than Republicans are crossing party lines to support Inslee).
Among independents in the survey, McKenna was winning 49 to 24 (with 26 percent "definitely" going for McKenna). And Inslee was losing 13 percent of Democratic voters to McKenna with another 15 percent of Democrats still undecided. McKenna had 83 percent of the Republicans with him, and only 3 percent going with Inslee.
