Politico posted a short profile of Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND) yesterday that details the Senator's battle with Obama over Wall Street regulation—Dorgan's using his antipathy toward Obama's economic plan to get ahead with his red-state constituency.

Sen. Dorgan formed a Senate group to confront Obama on the issue, and one of the Senators he enlisted is Maria Cantwell (D-WA), who has been critical of the Geithner/Paulson approach since she voted against the original bailout legislation back in September.

Politico says Dorgan's group of seven Senators—six Democrats, including Dorgan, and one independent, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)—met with Obama and his economic team in March to voice their concern that Obama was being soft on banks.

I have a call in to Sen. Cantwell's office to ask about the meetings and Cantwell's chief concerns.

Other Democrats in Dorgan's group are Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), both of whom—unlike Cantwell—voted for the initial bailout but have since raised concerns over the Fed's assistance to banks.
