Sasquatch Round Up: Masterpiece of Music Theory and Disney Soundtracks
This was originally posted yesterday morning, but we want to keep our recs for the weekend festival right in front of you. Plus, MusicNerd rocks. Plus, it's kind of cool that a little music comment thread—TVOR, Girl Talk, Animal Collective—is going down on PubliCola. So, we're moving this post up to the top.

[Editor's note: Who is MusicNerd? This is brilliant. Print it out, and take it to the festival.
For example, MusicNerd writes:
Again. Print out this whole thing. And have a great weekend at Sasquatch.]
SIFF isn't the only giant festival of choices choices choices worth navigating this weekend. Here is a quick guide to uninterrupted joy this Memorial Day weekend at Sasquatch :
SATURDAY

Champagne Champagne | Sat 12:00-12:45 Yeti Stage
Seattle MCs rap coke fables over sinister 80s synths
Dent May and His Magnificent Ukulele | Sat 3:15-4:00 Yeti Stage
Dent May is an expressive lounge crooner backed by Beach Boys harmonies. And, of course, a Magnificent Ukulele.
Shearwater | Sat 4:45-5:35 Wookie Stage
It's easy to imagine these NPR darlings donning earnest Ira Glass glasses while performing their dense, Black Sea epics
Animal Collective | Sat 5:40-6:40 Sasquatch Stage
Animal Collective are the most important rock band of the 2000s.
Mos Def | Sat 7:15-8:15 Wookie Stage
When he is hungry, Mos Def is among the best in the game. And his duo, Blackstar, helped define conscious rap. You know what, I'll even defend Be Kind Rewind to the grave.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs | Sat 8:30-9:30 Sasquatch Stage
Rapid and powerful rock spun around Karen O's wild yelps
SUNDAY
Hockey | Sun 1:30-2:15 Wookie Stage
Hockey provide huge guilty pleasure pop hooks like a more tolerable, but not entirely tolerable, Maroon 5.
St Vincent | Sun 3:40-4:25 Wookie Stage
Former member of Sujan Stevens' band and the Polyphonic Spree, Annie Clark, has branched off on her own to create jazzy pop experiments. Her just released “Actor” is a masterpiece of music theory and Disney soundtracks.
Avett Brothers | Sun 4:10-5:00 Sasquatch Stage
Cathartic country music
Aziz Ansari | Sun 4:45-5:30 Comedy Tent
His sketch comedy group, the Human Giant, are pretty funny and it is not his fault that NBC's “Parks and Recreation” isn't so funny.
The Dodos | Sun 6:30-7:15 Yeti Stage
Sadly, I am going to miss this band because they are on at the same time as TV on the Radio but if TVOR aren't your thing this is the place to be. The Dodos play up tempo freak folk with maniac energy and put on the best show at last year's Capitol Hill Block Party.
TV on the Radio | Sun 6:35-7:35 Sasquatch Stage
TVOR's Dear Science was the best album of 2008 and their funk meets post-punk fervor should be a festival highlight
M83 | Sun 7:15-8:15 Wookie Stage
This 80s teen movie throwback is the cool thing to do to cap off Sunday but I'm going to be at....
Nine Inch Nails | Sun 8:30-9:30 Sasquatch Stage
nope, something even worse...
Jane's Addiction | Sun 10:00-11:30 Sasquatch Stage
Ha!
MONDAY
Deerhoof | Mon 12:55-1:35 Sasquatch Stage
It will be awful to be hungover during Deerhoof's high pitched spazzy math rock but I'm doin it!
Black Moth Super Rainbow | 1:40-2:25 Wookie Stage
The band name actually does a pretty good job describing Black Moth Super Rainbow's (thanks ctrl+V!) psychedelic retro freak outs.
Santogold | Mon 2:50-3:35 Sasquatch Stage
Mixing MIA with classic No Doubt, Santogold makes some of the best pure pop around.
School of Seven Bells | Mon 3:15-4:00 Yeti Stage
If you are starting to feel festival fatigue at this point, School of Seven Bell's hazy electronica should cool you right down.
Blitzen Trapper | Mon 3:50-4:35 Wookie Stage
I am so happy for Portland's Blitzen Trapper who after channeling the spirits of Willie Nelson and Sonic Youth for seven or so albums are finally hitting their triumphant stride.
Fleet Foxes | Mon 4:55-5:55 Sasquatch Stage
Prediction: by 2012 Fleet Foxes will be the number one band kids lose their hand job virginity to at church camp. It will be the best time to be an American.
Beach House | Mon 6:30 7:15 Yeti Stage
A stately organ duo
Girl Talk | Mon 7:15-8:15 Wookie Stage
Girl Talk revolutionized the mash up and is probably the only party starter to be supported equally by dance minded youngsters and free speech advocate, Senator Russ Fiengold. Instead of cheeky, pun oriented mixes, Girl Talk focused on combining the best moments of pop songs to make unexpected epiphanies. His songs move quickly from Biggie Smalls rapping over Elton John's Tiny Dancer to a pairing of Metallica and “My Lip Gloss is Popin'” and it makes complete, beautiful sense.
