Re: Sally Bagshaw

By Josh Feit May 22, 2009

In this morning's Morning Fizz, we corrected the record on Seattle City Council candidate Sally Bagshaw's claim that she'd never contributed to a Republican.

We wrote:

At last night’s  46th District Democrats candidate forum in North Seattle, the only candidate to hold up the ‘Yes’ card when asked if they’d ever contributed to a Republican (gasp!) was Robert Rosencrantz.

I’m reporting this fact not to bust Rosencrantz—at least he’s honest—but to bust on Sally Bagshaw, who held up the ‘No’ card.

Bagshaw, who helped raise money for Republican King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg (her husband has given $900 to Satterberg), has donated $150 to GOP Attorney General Rob McKenna.

Later this morning,  an attentive reader sent this Seattle Times photo (from Rob McKenna's 2008 victory party) our way:

I don't mean to pick on Bagshaw, who's running for Jan Drago's open seat. And she did correct the record herself in the Morning Fizz comments thread.

And I will say this about Bagshaw—the former head of the civil division at the King County Prosecutor's Office: The reason I went to the 46th District candidate forum last night was to specifically check out the massive crew of City Council candidates and separate the wheat from the chaff. Bagshaw definitely made the Wheaties list, for her well-informed, original, and perhaps unpopular answers.

For example, she was the only candidate to explicitly tell the single-family zoned Northend audience that mother-in-law apartments were a must.

Again: There will be more to come from my  notes on last night's meeting.
