The two Seattle Democrats running for King County executive are both jockeying to be seen as the greenest candidate for the position. Larry Phillips, for example, has been flogging his so-called "Greenprint for King County," an environmental plan that includes buying and preserving rural lands, promoting transit-oriented development, and launching a Puget Sound cleanup initiative. Meanwhile, Dow Constantine rarely misses an opportunity to mention his longtime fight against enviro bad guy Glacier Northwest, which has been trying for years to expand its gravel mining operation on Maury Island, in Constantine's county council district.

Which brings us to our contributions of the day. According to the state Public Disclosure Commission, Phillips has received some $10,000 from Glacier lobbyists, consultants, and attorneys and their family members, as well as representatives from other gravel mining companies. Although contributions don't automatically indicate political like-mindedness, it's worth noting that none of Phillips' Glacier-related contributors gave a dime to Constantine, who has consistently fought against mining interests.
