Contribution of the Day
Erica is taking a couple of days off, so I'm stuck combing through the campaign finance reports for "Contribution of the Day."
Here's what I got: Southeast Seattle transit activist Richard Burkhart just gave $100 to Mike McGinn (bringing his total McGinn contributions to $200).
Why is this noteworthy? Well, Burkhart—an ardent light rail supporter and one-time member of the King County Transit Adviosry Committee—has endorsed Greg Nickels.
Burkhart—an advocate for transit oriented development, particularly around the Othello light rail station (he lives nearby)—worked as a neighborhood activist on a TOD bill with the Transportation Choices Coalition this past session in Olympia. The bill died for a host of reasons, including some lackluster support from Team Nickels.
Burkhart gave $13 to Nickels back in February.
Ultimately, what may explain his contribution to McGinn (also a strong advocate of TOD) is that Burkhart has been a member of the Sierra Club's transportation committee. McGinn, of course, has been the chair of the local Sierra Club board.
I'm trying to reach Burkhart (who's retired) to see if he's for McGinn or Nickels, but he's reportedly hiking in California.
