On July 15, Nordstrom does one of the weirdest things in the retail world: the locally based shopping giant puts brand new fall fashion on sale. Every year since the 60s, the brand has celebrated their anniversary with two weeks of pretty remarkable pre-season fashion, shoes, accessories, makeup, and more.

We asked Fanya Chandler, Nordstrom’s national personal stylist director, to share six tips for mastering the sale.

1. Take advantage of using a personal stylist; they can be your in-store expert and show you all the great deals. (You might think this is a paid-for service. It’s not.)

2. Anniversary is a great time to push your inner diva and pick up a great look that you have always wanted to try like a skinny leather pant paired with lace-up boots and a chunky sweater. Sport the hottest trends of the season!

3. Don’t forget to load up on your everyday items like cosmetics and lingerie and socks. Many items that never go on sale are reduced for the event.

4. Jewelry and accessories are a must when you’re creating your very own look. A great pendant necklace, a printed scarf, or a big bold handbag can finish off any look that is uniquely you.

5. Think of the Anniversary Sale like a trip to Disney World. You can’t do it all in one day. New wonderful merchandise arrives throughout the event so plan to come in on a few different days and explore.

6. Anniversary is also the best time to get a jump start to back to school. It may seem early but the school season will be here before you know it—just don’t tell the kids.
