Their Favorite Things: Asher Anson in Ballard
At Asher Anson, the idea is to look put together and on top of things without appearing to have spent any time sweating about it, or really even giving a damn. That is, at least, how it seems to me.
Further evidence: Matt Lawrence (you’ll find him manning the shop) loves these pearl-button western-style shirts by Takel. In fact, he reports that he’s got the plain one in his own closet. But wait. Let’s rephrase that. There’s nothing plain about a perfect chambray-style shirt. I think every guy ought to own one, and in fact I wouldn’t give anyone a hard time for owning two. One could be lightweight, like this one, and the other could be a heavier, more like actual denim.
Lawrence likes these shirts with distressed jeans. Me, I’m seeing the solid one with slim-fitting denim (but not super skinny, c’mon, let’s reign that in) in either gray or white, depending on the day, night, mood, or fellow. Tucked in. No socks, soft brown leather or suede loafers made by hand in Italy, and the sleeves rolled just slightly—not like you spent any time sweating about it, or even really giving a damn, but as if you just finished doing the dishes and are ready to hold someone’s hand.
