Help Save Columbia City Cinema

"Little cinema that could" needs immediate financial help to stay open.

Sam Worthington is all fired up about saving Columbia City Cinema. (He stars in Clash of the Titans, opening soon at CCC.)

Columbia City Cinema is in a tough spot. Attendance has been down the last few months, and after a tenant defaulted (a $25,000 debt the cinema had to assume), the self-proclaimed "little cinema that could" found itself out of cash, and out of time. They put out a cry for help recently on their website:

"We don’t have money for the rent. We don’t have money to pay for film. We don’t have money for loan and lease payments," the statement reads. They’re asking for $20,000 to carry them through to summer blockbuster season, which starts in May. "We’re hoping for a scene like the one in It’s a Wonderful Life where everyone comes forward to save the Building and Loan. We’re hoping to send you another email soon that says ‘Thank you. Crisis averted.’ In fact, we’re counting on it."
