If you haven't noticed, this Macklemore fellow seems to be pretty popular around Seattle. In a little over a year, he and Ryan Lewis have gone from stars of the local hip-hop scene to chart-topping, Grammy nominated (seven times over), arena-packing superstars. With the duo beginning its run of three sold out KeyArena shows tonight (keep in mind Pearl Jam only sold out one night at KeyArena last weekend), we thought it would be an ideal time to look back on how the two got to this point. This didn't prove too difficult to do considering how frequently we've covered Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Here's a chronological recap of what we've written about Macklemore and Ryan Lewis in the past year and a half:

• Macklemore and Ryan Lewis release the pro-gay rights single "Same Love." Proceeds of the single's sales go to support Referendum 74, which eventually passes, legalizing same sex marriage in Washington state.

• The Mariners host Macklemore Night at Safeco Field.
  

• The video for "Thrift Shop" drops. The outlandishly fun clip shows the world Macklemore's unique style and soon becomes an Internet sensation.
  
  
• Naturally, our style editor reaches out to Macklemore's his thrift shopping tips.

• Days before the group's new album – The Heist – hits stores, we catch up with Ryan Lewis for a Fiendish Conversation.

• The Heist debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard charts. It becomes clear that the Macklemore phenomenon isn't going to remain a local thing.

• We name The Heist the Album of the Month for October 2012, declaring it a proclamation of arrival on a national level. (Got that one right.)

• Macklemore and Ryan Lewis begin popping up performing on national media outlets, including an emotional performance of "Same Love" on Ellen and an energetic Tiny Desk Concert for NPR.

• Thanks in large part to the success of the "Thrift Shop" and "Same Love" music videos, SIFF hosts a night of Seattle music videos on the big screen, which features an appearance by the Macklemore co-director Jon Jon Augustavo.

• With "Thrift Shop" becoming a megahit, we chat once again with Lewis while the duo is on the road touring.

• The duo announces its first major festival headlining spot at Sasquatch! Festival 2013 by playing a surprise three song set at the fest's launch party at the Neptune.

• Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's meteoric rise to hip-hop stardom brings on the inevitable wave of analytical backlash.

• The trailer for the Seattle hip-hop documentary The Otherside hits the Internet, with Macklemore playing a prominent role. The film eventually premieres at SIFF 2013.

• We include Macklemore and Ryan Lewis in our list of the 50 Most Influential People in Seattle Right Now.

•  The guys hold an art contest centered around The Heist flag and the winners get a spot at the duo's annual fan appreciation pizza party.

• Macklemre and Ryan Lewis release globetrotting video for "Can't Hold Us," which would become another smash hit.

• Over Memorial Day weekend at the Gorge, the guys whip Sasquatch! crowd into a frenzy.

• Macklemore and Ryan Lewis announce their first show local show in over a year, to be held at KeyArena in December. After the first show sells out immediately, another show is added... and then another.

• We check out the style of Macklorette (aka Macklemore back-up dancer) Kisha Vaughan and ask her to break down the Macklorette look.

• Rumors swirl about Macklemore making an appearance at the Dick's on Capitol Hill for a music video shoot. Those rumors turn out to be true.

• We have a Fiendish Conversation with "Same Love" singer Mary Lambert and discuss how the unexpected hit single has changed her career.

• The group releases the music video for "White Walls," The Heist's fourth single. It features footage from the aforementioned Dick's appearance on Capitol Hill.

• With the December shows upon us, we thought it only fitting that the KeyArena shows would be among our Top Things to Do in December and Macklemore should be invited to this month's hypothetical Perfect Party.
