5 Picnic Kits for a Socially Distant Summer

The Paragon of picnic boxes. From none other than Paragon.
DeLaurenti Food and Wine
The Pike Place institution was a master of all things picnic-related before social distancing became part of our day-to-day vocabulary. Located to the left of the market clock, the 70-year-old grocery stocks everything from Washington cheeses to salamis sourced from Spain and housemade deli sandwiches. Explore the themed charcuterie and cheese boxes online. The boxes feed as few as four and range from region-specific to the Old School Antipasti Box’s smattering of customer favorites and DeLaurenti deli classics.

Ebb and Company
This specialty market and natural wine bar in Bryant assembles summer picnic kits, filled with cured meat, an assortment of cheeses, local fruits and veggies, and house sourdough crackers. But the decision to throw in chilled cans of Ramona sparkling rose really elevates this simple box to a work of picnic–mastery. Stop by the brick and mortar store or order online for delivery.
Miri’s Golden Gardens
Aside from its convenient beachfront location at Golden Gardens Park, Miri’s is a culinary destination in its own right. Run by Miri Plowman and Gabe Skoda, a husband-wife duo with Seattle roots, the stand dishes up easy-to-share kebab plates, picnic platters (consisting of roasted and raw veg with house hummus for dipping), and a PB and J sandwich that will please the youngest palates. To sweeten things up, snag a Full Tilt ice cream bar or a plate of Poffertjes—the powdered sugar-dusted mini pancakes topped that gave the eatery its start.

Joyce’s Market and Cafe
Joyce Hosea commandeers this sunny spot in the Central District. This bistro–food market hybrid sports a summer menu with an assortment of sandwiches, pasta salads, and crostinis that are arguably tastier when consumed au plein air. Joyce’s Cheese Platter is also a quintessential option: pick out two meats, two local cheeses, and one of the shop’s specialty spreads from the deli case—Just make sure to grab a baguette and an iced tea before making your way out the door.
Paragon
Stephan Bourgond, the chef at this neighborly Queen Anne grill is bringing his elegant touch to meals specially designed for the outdoors.
