Von Trapp's gives new meaning to getting the boot.

The new Von Trapp's bills itself a German-style beer hall. The decor certainly reinforces that theme, as does the food: kasespatzle, schnitzel, pretzels and brats aplenty. The beer selection is ample as well. But boots, are those happening?

Deutschers who have wondered as much will be happy to learn this most fun tradition is in fact happening. Any beer with an ABV of seven percent or less can be consumed in a two-liter glass vessel—that's a little more than half of the 24 taps on offer.

The idea with these boots is to gather a group (what, you were going to guzzle two liters by yourself?) and pass it round without interruption (setting it on the table is verboten). Flick the glass after each swig, and be wary of the bubble that tends to form in the toe. Finish das boot and you're the winner; the person before you is the loser and has to buy the next round.

Not advised for the faint of liver.
