For me, the phrase ‘Date Night In’ is strictly reserved for a middle of the week pick-me-up. Otherwise, I’d call this post something like, ‘The Babysitter’s Here’.
Now, the first thing I have to do in preparation for date night in is take the day off – I’m kidding. Seriously though, if you’ve ever shown up unannounced to someone’s home with two working parents and two children under the age of 7, you know it’s not a pretty sight. Therefore, in the case of date night in, cleanliness is most definitely next to godliness.
Next, I have to make sure the kids are so tired that they don’t emerge from their rooms 97 times. The best way to make this happen is to pick them up early and then run them like they’re a couple of puppies. On the way, I order take-out because – no dishes.
The most critical decision is determining whether it’s a movie and wine, or a cards and manhattans kind of night. If we haven’t talked in what seems like weeks, we lean towards a competitive card game called Spite and Malice. If we’re both exhausted and need silent togetherness, we resort to Netflix. Either way, the decision is typically born through multiple texts.
Finally, we’ve all read posts where our beloved bloggers curate their best date night in ‘looks’. Here’s my dose of reality: we both wear our pajamas, my make-up is smudged, my hair askew, but man, doesn’t the living room look great?
Shop merrily at University Village this Holiday season.
